Sat 14th Sept (Around Taormina)

  • Little bit of work catchup
  • Beautiful breakfast again
  • Taxi to nearby Ancient Greek theater
  • Sam bought beautiful original painting from lovely working woman in street. Cari Privitera. She also restores ancient paintings. Apparently well known in Malta also.
  • Tickets to theatre, coughing people everywhere.
  • Gave ethan tour on phone, huge place, great views from top
  • Inside gorgeous church, Largo S Caterina (earby), quick in and out. Beggar out front.
  • Found smaller Roman theater (Odeon), recently ecavated and opened to public for free.
  • Aperol and prosecco spritz at nice wine bar outside, grumpy lady, no card, cash only. Potato chips again.
  • Walked through gardens (Florence Trevelyan who married local Dr Salvadatore Cacciola 1890 and created garden)
  • Walked back to our pizzeria and got lunch
  • Strange guy hanging around smoking, ended up being travel tour guide
  • Tried to find flowers as gift for hotel hosts but no florists anywhere or on google
  • Back to hotel for rest
  • Lined up for dinner at famous Osteria Da Rita. Chatted with young American couple and seated next to Manchester couple and different (loud) American couple who recommended a fabulous steak place in florence.
  • Amazing dinner of mussels and sardine pasta. Sam had lasagne. Free piece of bruschetta each. Big Stretto birra (beer, see photo)
  • Lots of laughs. Especially about penises.
  • Back to hotel by 10pm.
