Fri 13th Sept (To Grammichele)

  • Eggs and bacon brekky
  • Dreaded Drive to Grammichele, alomst immediately got lost coming down from Taormina, and had to go longer way through a seaside town
  • Decided not to use car’s navigation. Google maps on phone better
  • Servo stop, forgot charge cable for phones, no luck
  • 1pm Grammichele very old and run down but quite large. Got to hexagon piazza and promptly got told off by parking inspector.
  • Ended up parking opposite Mans house who graciously offered up his better park around the corner. So nice.
  • Creepy place, very few pedestrians but quite a lot of cars driving around.
  • Walked back to hexagon but nothing really open except gelato place. I got a arancini and Sam got gelato.
  • Strange guys watching us from one of the corners.
  • My phone almost dead and left charge cable in hotel so looked for supermarket about 1km away. Man and wife closing up, but opened especially for us. So nice, they didn’t know Mamana name or what we were talking about but lovely anyway. Nobody here speaks any English my guess.
  • No usb cables here either
  • Drove the 4 hours back to Taormina via crazy busy towns and 130 kmh freeways.
  • Google maps finally got us home unharmed and I felt triumphant . Wrote first blog post.
  • Dinner at Bistro Du Monde (in earby) down quiant little laneway (used Unibank as land mark), lamb shank to die for and my etna rose wine. Sam had spaghetti carbonara.
  • Walked around town and got a cannoli, early night.
  • 3am called eth to wish him well grand final.
  • Sophie and josh joined in.
