Fri 20th Sept (Around Rome: Colloseaum, Pantheon)

  • 7am breky at average restaurant, had to specially order machiatos but only avaerge
  • Taxis on strike ??
  • Got to tour meeting spot early this time, grabbed better coffee from canteen thing.
  • Palatine hill ruins, very old beautiful . Origin of the word ‘Palace’.
  • Good Photos on top of hill overlooking Colloseaum and parts of Rome. Panoramic.
  • Colloseaum (1st century AD) not called that originally, was named after the emperors like Augusta etc.
  • Cat flaps
  • Trapdoors under arena to bring animals and gladiators up to fight.
  • Lost Tan, she was downstrairs.
  • Nice lunch in cafe on busy street nearby alfresco, spaghetti meatballs
  • Taxis hard to get but Somehow (ie: Boony pushed in hehe) and got taxi to Pantheon
  • Met a few Aussies on the tour
  • Pantheon was originally a temple for All greek gods pagan worship, converted to catholic church after Constantine brought in Christianity.
  • Funny gay tour guy
  • Oculus lets rain in centre, and drains away
  • $30 gelato across the road but worth it.
  • No taxis available so walked the 2kms home in the heat. Buggered at end
  • Sammy did some washing in downstairs laundry. Met nice Pastor (Lewie) in courtyard who corrected a few stories the tour guides got wrong about Vatican.
  • Peroni with Boony in upstairs beer garden
  • Quick lie down before dinner.
  • Lots of Helicopters landing next door
  • Went to restaurant recommended by pastor, around the corner, very nice sea bass.
